Todd Gaines is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the UWA School of Agriculture and Environment and holds an Associate Professor position at Colorado State University since 2014. His research focuses on herbicide resistance mechanisms, metabolic pathways, and sustainable agricultural practices. He investigates resistance evolution in plants like Amaranthus spp., waterhemp, and ragweed, with emphasis on detoxification pathways and genetic adaptations.
Recent work includes studies on 2,4-D resistance in Sisymbrium orientale and glyphosate resistance in Ambrosia artemisiifolia. His articles analyze biotype-specific responses, absorption patterns, and detoxification strategies. Gaines collaborates internationally, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable agriculture and environmental protection. He led a 2008–2009 project on herbicide resistance management funded by Australia's Department of Agriculture.
