Tobias Singelnstein is Professor of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and Criminology at Goethe University Frankfurt's Faculty of Law and serves as Deputy Chairman of the Board at ECCHR (European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights). His dual institutional roles position him at the intersection of academic legal scholarship and practical human rights advocacy.
His research spans criminology (examining social control mechanisms, police-judiciary dynamics, and security policies) and criminal law/procedure (analyzing official misconduct, investigative techniques, evidence standards, and digital data processing in legal contexts). This work bridges theoretical frameworks with real-world legal applications, particularly regarding state power and individual rights.
Professor Singelnstein co-edits the journals Neue Kriminalpolitik and Kriminologisches Journal, shaping scholarly discourse in German-speaking criminology. Through ECCHR's board leadership, he influences strategic litigation on international crimes, corporate accountability, and border policies, demonstrating consistent engagement with both academic and applied dimensions of human rights law.
