Tobias Engel

Dr. Tobias Engel is a Senior Lecturer in Physiology and Medical Physics at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). His research focuses on purinergic signaling pathways, particularly the P2X7 receptor's role in neurological conditions like epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease. He holds a B.Sc. in Biology from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and a Ph.D. in Neurobiology from the same institution's Centro de Biología Molecular 'Severo Ochoa.'

Engel's work explores pathological changes post-brain injury leading to epileptic seizures, with emphasis on ATP-gated receptors and hyperexcitability mechanisms.
