Tobias Bunde

Prof. Tobias Bunde is a Professor of International Security at the Hertie School and Director of Research and Policy at the Munich Security Conference, serving on its Executive Board. He holds a PhD in Political Science from Freie Universität Berlin, with studies in Germany, France, and the U.S.

His research focuses on German foreign/security policy, Western democracy cooperation, international order evolution, and nuclear deterrence. He leads the Stanton Foundation-funded project 'Raising the Nuclear IQ' and co-edits the annual Munich Security Report, pivotal to shaping the conference's agenda.

Teaching includes courses like 'Nuclear Weapons in International Politics' and 'War, Peace & Strategy.' His work bridges academic research with policy impact, addressing critical issues such as NATO nuclear posture, post-Ukraine invasion policy shifts, and multipolarity challenges.
