Tjeerd Van Staa is a Professor of Health e-Research at the University of Manchester's Division of Informatics, Imaging & Data Sciences. He specializes in pragmatic randomized trials using electronic health records (EHRs), with a focus on cluster trials and pharmacoepidemiology. His research addresses interventions in primary care, drug safety, and osteoporosis. He holds a MD from Erasmus University Rotterdam, a PhD in Pharmacoepidemiology from Utrecht University, and advanced degrees in Epidemiology and Medical Ethics.
His career includes roles as Director of Research at the Clinical Practice Research Datalink and leadership in international collaborations like the Innovative Medicines Initiative. He teaches at Utrecht University and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, covering pharmacoepidemiology and drug safety.
