Angel Wong

Dr. Angel Wong is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Non-communicable Disease Epidemiology within the Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). She serves as the deputy director of the Centre for Global Chronic Conditions and is actively involved in pharmacoepidemiological research using multinational electronic health records (EHRs) for causal inference studies across diverse healthcare systems in the UK, Hong Kong, Japan, and Denmark.

Her educational background includes a BSc in Public Health from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a PhD in Pharmacoepidemiology from the University of Hong Kong. She joined LSHTM in 2018 as a Research Fellow and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2020. She also holds honorary positions at the University of Hong Kong as an Honorary Research Associate (since 2019) and Honorary Assistant Professor (since 2023).

Dr. Wong's research focuses on applying novel methodologies in health data research to generate real-world evidence. Her work emphasizes using self-controlled designs and propensity scores to minimize confounding and bias, producing high-quality clinical evidence to inform prescribing decisions. Current research projects include investigating drug-drug interactions, safety profiles of cardiovascular and psychotropic medications, and examining how heatwaves alter medication effects using EHRs linked to meteorological data. Her publications demonstrate expertise in self-controlled case series and case-crossover designs, with numerous recent papers focusing on anticoagulant safety and drug interactions.

Dr. Wong is actively involved in professional activities, serving as a journal reviewer for publications like Heart Rhythm, BJGP Open, and Drugs. She has been invited as a keynote speaker at the University of Hong Kong and presented at ISPE's Asian Conference on Pharmacoepidemiology. As an educator, she organizes the Professional Certificate course in Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacovigilance at LSHTM and supervises MSc students in Epidemiology, Public Health, and Health Data Science programs.
