Titina Kornezou

Titina Kornezou is an Associate Professor of Art History from the Renaissance to Romanticism at the Department of History and Archaeology, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Crete. She has been teaching History of Western Art at the University of Crete since 2004, initially as a contract employee, then as a lecturer (2009), assistant professor (2014), and associate professor (2022).

Born in Athens, she completed her undergraduate and postgraduate studies in History of Art and Archaeology at the University of Rennes (Rennes II) in France, earning her PhD from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Crete in 2004. Her academic journey reflects a deep commitment to the discipline of art history in the Greek academic context.

Professor Kornezou's research focuses on European art from the 16th to 18th centuries with particular emphasis on French painting of the 17th and 18th centuries, the theory and historiography of art, and artistic institutions of the same period. Her work explores the institutional frameworks of art production, the evolution of art education in academies, and the reception of artists like Nicolas Poussin across different historical periods.

Her scholarly output shows a consistent trajectory toward understanding the theoretical underpinnings of art historical practice while examining specific historical case studies. The publications span from medieval art reception to modern interpretations of historical artists, demonstrating both chronological breadth and methodological sophistication.
