Dr. Tina Managhan is a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at Oxford Brookes University's School of Law and Social Sciences. She holds a PhD from York University, Canada, with research specializing in critical security studies, postcolonial theory, and feminist/psychoanalytic approaches to international relations. Her work interrogates how identity, embodiment, and emotion shape global political practices, particularly through examinations of U.S. foreign policy and the 'war on terror.'
Her research explores the 'politics of the body' in national and transnational contexts, focusing on how cultural meanings are negotiated through security practices. Current projects apply psychoanalytic theory to analyze fear, jouissance, and risk in contemporary security discourses. She is affiliated with the Centre for Global Politics, Economy and Society (GPES).
Teaching includes undergraduate and postgraduate modules on security studies, critical militarism, and global politics. She supervises PhD students researching critical security themes, gender in international security, and postcolonial responses to terrorism. Notable supervisees include Shane Szarkowski (Failed State Discourse), Matthew Hurley (Gender/Security Narratives), and Agnieszka Balicka (State Responses to Terrorism).
