Dr. Timothy Walsworth is an Assistant Professor in the Watershed Sciences Department at Utah State University and affiliated with the Ecology Center. He teaches undergraduate courses on Fish Ecology, Conservation, and Management (WATS 3100 and 3110) and a graduate-level class (WATS 6460) on dynamic models for natural resource decisions.
- PhD, Aquatic and Fisheries Sciences, University of Washington (2016)
- MS, Ecology, Utah State University (2011)
- BS, Zoology, University of Wisconsin - Madison (2008)
His research examines how fish populations, aquatic communities, and socio-ecological systems respond to environmental change and management actions. Key areas include endangered fish conservation in the American southwest, commercial salmon management in Alaska, and the intersection of ecological modeling with decision-making under uncertainty. His lab employs quantitative modeling to project future dynamics and inform adaptive management strategies.
Recent publications highlight work on invasive species control, fisheries-induced nutrient cycle disruptions, and climate change impacts on aquatic ecosystems. His lab has contributed to understanding post-wildfire threats to Utah fisheries and Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout recovery dynamics.
- Graduate Mentor of the Year, 2025
- Undergraduate Research Mentor of the Year, 2021
Mentored graduate students include Austin Garner, Ellie Wallace, Skylar Rousseau, Rae Fadlovich, Emmanuel May, Ryan Dillingham, and Dale Fonken. He has taught courses on fishery management, dynamic modeling, and conservation biology since 2020.
