Timothy Shea

Timothy Shea is an **Assistant Professor of Classical Archaeology** at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), affiliated with the Department of Classics and the Curriculum in Archaeology. He holds a Ph.D. in Art History from Duke University (2018) and a B.A. in Greek and Latin from Tulane University (2011). His research focuses on the art, archaeology, and topography of ancient Greece, particularly the Archaic and Classical periods. He is currently completing a monograph, *Death and Diplomacy: The Politics of Immigration and Burial in Classical Athens*, which examines how immigrant communities in Athens expressed identity through tombstones and burial practices. Shea employs digital mapping tools (GIS) to analyze spatial relationships in archaeological data.

Research & Grants
