Timothy Pappa is an Adjunct Professor in Cyber Security at Capitol Technology University, specializing in Comparative Cyber Security courses. He currently serves as an Incident Response Engineer at Walmart Global Tech, focusing on cyber deception strategies against global cybercriminal threats. Previously, he held roles at the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), where he pioneered cyber deception theory and co-founded the Deception and Influence Group (DIG). Pappa has extensive intelligence experience with the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). He is also a Senior Behavioral Consultant at Analyst1, a Strategy and Statecraft Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), and a Research Fellow at the NATO Veterans Initiative Research Institute.
His research focuses on cyber deception, behavioral analysis of cybercriminals, ransomware personalities, and cybercrime culture. Pappa has published in journals like the Journal of Information Warfare and American Intelligence Journal, and frequently speaks on cyber warfare and intelligence strategies.
