Timothy Nielsen is a Researcher at the The Leeder Centre for Health Policy, Economics and Data within the Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney. His work focuses on pediatric and perinatal epidemiology, particularly the interplay between maternal health exposures and child neurodevelopmental outcomes.

His research spans maternal mental health, substance use, autoimmune conditions, and neurodevelopmental disorders like ADHD and autism. Using data linkage methodologies, he investigates:
- Maternal inflammation and offspring ADHD/autism
- Health disparities in substance use disorder treatment
- Autoimmune disease prevalence in maternal populations
Recent publications analyze ADHD pharmacotherapy trends, maternal opioid use outcomes, and inflammatory pathways in neurodevelopmental conditions. His work informs health policy through large-scale cohort studies and systematic reviews.
