Professor Russell Dale is a Professor of Paediatric Neurology and Petre Professor of Paediatric Neurology at the University of Sydney. He leads the Kids Neuroscience Centre at the Children's Hospital at Westmead and serves as the Academic Leader (Research) for the Discipline of Child and Adolescent Health within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. His research focuses on immune-mediated neurological disorders, particularly autoimmune encephalitis, movement disorders, and neurodevelopmental conditions like autism and Tourette syndrome. He investigates biomarkers in cerebrospinal fluid to diagnose brain inflammation and improve treatment outcomes for children.
Current projects include studying maternal autoantibodies' effects on fetal brain development, proteomic and metabolomic markers of childhood brain disorders, and neuronal/gliial markers for disease diagnosis. He is actively involved in clinical trials for therapies targeting autoimmune and inflammatory conditions.
