Professor Timothy Marchant is a distinguished academic affiliated with the University of Wollongong (Honorary Professor, School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics) and the University of Melbourne (Director, Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute). He holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Adelaide (1988) and has supervised 20 Masters/PhD students. His research focuses on nonlinear optics, nonlinear wave dynamics, and combustion theory, with specific interests in soliton propagation, dispersive shock waves, and reaction-diffusion systems.
- Current Roles: Honorary Professor (UOW), Director (AMSI)
- Past Leadership: Dean of Research (UOW, 2009–2020), Head of School (UOW, 2007–2009)
His recent publications highlight applications in nematic liquid crystals, thermal media, and colloidal systems, employing semi-analytical and numerical methods. Awards include Fellow of the Australian Mathematical Society (2007–present). Grants emphasize high-performance computing infrastructure and mathematical modeling in industry.
- Grants: Multiple Linkage Infrastructure Equipment & Facilities (LIEF) grants (2006–2012)
