معرفی
Dr. Maureen Edwards is an Associate Professor and Head of School at the School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics, Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences, University of Wollongong, Australia. She has held the position of Head of School since July 2021 and maintains an active research program in applied mathematics with a focus on nonlinear partial differential equations and mathematical modeling.
Dr. Edwards received her academic training at the University of Wollongong, where she earned:
- Bachelor of Mathematics (Honours) in Applied Mathematics (1988-1991)
- Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Mathematics (1992-1997)
Dr. Edwards' research focuses on developing and solving mathematical models involving nonlinear partial differential equations, particularly those motivated by biological invasion and population dynamics. She specializes in applying Lie symmetry techniques to nonlinear differential equations, with particular emphasis on reaction-diffusion equations. Her work spans multiple applications including environmental engineering (activated sludge processes), mathematical biology (viral spread in plants), and chemical kinetics (autocatalytic reactions).
Her recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on symmetry analysis of nonlinear reaction-diffusion equations and mathematical modeling of biological and environmental systems. Key trends include the application of non-classical symmetry methods to solve complex reaction-diffusion problems, mathematical modeling of wastewater treatment processes, and analysis of biological spread phenomena. Her work bridges theoretical mathematics with practical applications across multiple scientific domains.
Dr. Edwards has received recognition for her contributions to academia:
- Vice Chancellor's OCTAL Award (January 2011, University of Wollongong)
Dr. Edwards has supervised multiple PhD students through completion and currently mentors two doctoral candidates. Her completed supervision includes research on mathematical models using nonlinear ODEs for activated sludge processes, semi-analytical solutions for reaction-diffusion equations, and the effect of incomplete mixing in biological and chemical reactors. She has secured internal funding for educational support initiatives, including the "Embedded Learning Support: MATH142 & MATH188" grant (2013).
Dr. Edwards maintains active professional memberships in the Asia Pacific Consortium of Mathematics for Industry, Australian Mathematical Society, and Australian New Zealand Industrial and Applied Mathematics, demonstrating her commitment to advancing applied mathematics both nationally and internationally.
