Timothy Johns is an Associate Professor of English at Murray State University, coordinating the Film Studies Minor and Jesse Stuart Fellowship. He holds a Ph.D. from SUNY Stony Brook, an M.A. from San Francisco State, and a B.A. from Oberlin College. His research focuses on World Literature and Cinema, with specializations in South African Writing and Post-colonial Studies. Dr. Johns emphasizes collaborative dialogue in teaching, linking students to global literary and cinematic trends.
His scholarship bridges Victorian literature and cinema, postcolonial African narratives, and the intersection of economics and sexuality in South African fiction. Recent publications include Encyclopedia of Victorian Literature (2015) and analyses of works by K. Sello Duiker and Phaswane Mpe. He has received teaching accolades including Six Letters of Excellence from NYU and Murray State’s Emerging Scholar Award (2010).
Leadership roles include former Director of Cinema International and Jesse Stuart Fellowship coordination. Professional memberships include the African Literature Association and Modern Language Association.
