Timothy J. Ives

Timothy J. Ives, Pharm.D., M.P.H., is an Adjunct Professor of Medicine-Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, holding dual affiliations with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and the UNC School of Medicine. He holds a Pharm.D. and B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Florida, and an M.P.H. in Health Policy and Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill. His roles include directing the Chronic Pain Program in the Division of General Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology, serving as interim Chair of the Division of Pharmacy Practice, and leading the UNC System Faculty Assembly.

Research focuses on chronic pain management, inflammation, and advancing primary care pharmacy roles. Notable contributions include studies on opioid misuse predictors and pharmacist-led public health initiatives. He is a nationally recognized Fellow of both the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and American College of Clinical Pharmacy.

Awards include his clinical pharmacist practitioner licensure in NC and leadership in quality improvement initiatives such as Medicare wellness visits and depression screening programs. His work bridges clinical practice, public health, and policy to optimize patient care through pharmacist integration in primary care.
