Dr. Timothy Dickens is a faculty member at the University of Cambridge with roles spanning academic leadership, teaching, and IT management. He serves as the Head of the Department of Chemistry, IT Coordinator for the School of Physical Sciences, and Head of IT at the Scott Polar Institute. His graduate admissions tutoring and fellowships at Peterhouse College further highlight his administrative and academic contributions.
- BSc, Chemistry (University of Kent, 1976-1979)
- PhD, Theoretical Chemistry (University of Kent, 1979-1982)
- PhD, Theoretical Chemistry (University of Cambridge, 2020)
His research focuses on dispersion forces and exchange potentials, critical for modeling molecular crystals and drug-receptor interactions. Recent work applies graph theory to NMR ring current calculations in aromatic systems, alongside explorations of bell-ringing combinatorics. Despite his technical roles, he maintains a commitment to chemical education, revising the textbook Chemistry of the Carbonyl Group.
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC)
- Chartered Chemist (CChem)
Throughout his career, Dickens has balanced scientific rigor with organizational leadership, serving on committees like the IT Committee, Food and Wine Committee, and acting as a Senior Information Risk Owner. His interdisciplinary approach bridges chemistry, computational methods, and theoretical applications.
