Timothy Devinney is a Professor and Chair of International Business at the Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester. He holds a joint appointment as Professor (Conjoint) at Macquarie University’s Faculty of Medicine and has held leadership roles at the University of Leeds and Australian Graduate School of Management. His academic career includes visiting positions at institutions across Europe and Asia. Devinney’s research focuses on international business, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and political risk, with over 100 peer-reviewed articles and 12 books. He has received prestigious awards such as the Humboldt Research Prize and multiple fellowships, including from the Academy of Management and Academy of Social Sciences.
Education: BSc from Carnegie Mellon University; MBA, MA, and PhD from the University of Chicago.
Research interests span globalization, strategic management, and CSR, emphasizing the intersection of political environments and business practices. His work addresses topics like populism’s impact on corporations, sustainable practices, and organizational performance measurement. He serves on editorial boards of leading journals and has advised global corporations such as Apple, SAP, and Rolls Royce.
Recent articles highlight themes like political risk in post-pandemic contexts, CSR authenticity, and federalism’s influence on investment decisions. His awards reflect contributions to management practice and global academic leadership.
Devinney chairs the Sustainability Research & Policy Network (SSRN) and serves on boards for organizations like Voluntary Action Leeds and the Committee on Publication Ethics. His advisory roles include the British Academy’s Future of the Corporation Initiative.
