Dr. Timothy Ball is a Professor in the School of Communication Studies at James Madison University (JMU), where he has been a faculty member since 1998. He serves as the Basic Course director since 2003 and teaches courses such as Fundamental Human Communication (SCOM 123), Introduction to Organizational Communication (SCOM 350), Communication in a Mediated Society (SCOM 318), and Business and Professional Communication (SCOM 358). Additionally, he offers advanced courses like Advanced Organizational Communication (SCOM 450) and Introduction to Teaching Fundamental Human Communication (SCOM 502).
His research focuses on teaching methodologies and their impact on student learning, assessment frameworks for communication competence (cognitive, behavioral, and affective measures), and the role of civic engagement in effective communication practices.
Outside academia, Dr. Ball resides in Harrisonburg with his wife Joan, a kindergarten teacher, and their two cats, Tenacity and Annie.
