معرفی
Timo Mueller is a Director at the Institute for Diabetes and Obesity and a W3 Professor at the Walther-Straub Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology, Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (LMU). His work bridges endocrinology, molecular pharmacology, and metabolic disorders to develop personalized preventive and therapeutic strategies for obesity and diabetes.
- Education:
- Animal Physiology, Philipps-University Marburg, Germany
- Ph.D. in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany (2009)
His research on gut hormone-based therapies (e.g., GLP-1, GIP, glucagon) has revolutionized obesity and diabetes treatment. Key contributions include:
- Establishing GLP-1/GIP co-agonists for weight loss
- Refuting the role of alternatively activated macrophages in thermogenesis
- Decoding GIP receptor signaling in the central nervous system
- Engineering liver-targeted T3 delivery via glucagon
His >190 publications span Cell, Nature, and Cell Metabolism. Awards include the Minkowski Award (2023), ERC Consolidator Grant (2022), and Werner-Creutzfeldt Prize (2023).
- Scientific Awards:
- Minkowski Award (EASD) - 2023
- Werner-Creutzfeldt Prize (DDG) - 2023
- Galenus-von-Pergamon Award - 2022
- ERC Consolidator Grant (TRUSTED) - 2022
- DZD Diabetes Award - 2015
As Head of the Division of Molecular Pharmacology at Helmholtz Munich since 2011 and Director since 2023, Mueller leads an international team exploring central and peripheral metabolic signaling to combat obesity, diabetes, and comorbidities. Current projects focus on GIP receptor mechanisms and novel hormone-based therapies.
