Timo Koivurova is a Research Professor at the Arctic Centre, University of Lapland. He holds visiting and adjunct professor roles at Kobe University (Japan), Riga Graduate School of Law, University of Eastern Finland, and University of Turku. His research focuses on Arctic law, international environmental law, and geopolitical dynamics in the Arctic region. He has authored over 465 publications and led 43 research projects, including major initiatives like the ICEBERG project on Arctic Ocean governance and the Co-CREATE project on solar radiation management.
Key research interests include legal frameworks for indigenous peoples, climate change regulations, Arctic geopolitics, and China’s Arctic engagement. He has received awards such as the 2015 Honorable Mention for environmental policy analysis and the 2008 Nordenskiöld Stipend for Arctic legal research.
