Timo Kauppinen is a Chief Researcher at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), serving as Deputy Head of the Socially Sustainable Society unit. His research focuses on housing conditions, residential segregation, and geographical differences in well-being within the context of social sustainability.
Dr. Kauppinen holds a Doctor of Social Sciences in Sociology from the University of Helsinki (2005) and was awarded a Docent title in Sociology from the same institution in 2011. His academic foundation includes a Master of Social Sciences in Sociology from the University of Helsinki (1999).
His primary research interests include:
- Social sustainability across time and space
- Housing conditions and residential environments
- Geographical disparities in well-being
- Residential segregation patterns
- Migration impacts on social systems
Currently, he leads the Migration work package in the SustAgeable project (2021-2027), which examines economic and social sustainability in ageing societies across different geographical contexts.
