Tim Windsor is Matthew Flinders Professor at the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work at Flinders University, where he serves as Interim Deputy Director of the Flinders Institute of Mental Health and Wellbeing. He coordinates the PSYC3009 Lifespan Development in Cultural Perspective course and leads the Generations Research Initiative, which focuses on improving health and wellbeing of older people through research on individual and societal aging, intergenerational connections, and community-based care services.
Professor Windsor's research program centers on understanding factors that promote healthy aging and engagement with life post-retirement. His work employs both long-term and micro-longitudinal data to study developmental processes contributing to aging well, with particular emphasis on psychological and social processes facilitating coping and resilience. He collaborates with national and international researchers from Europe and the United States on both basic research and applied projects aimed at promoting late life well-being and reducing ageism. He directs the Generations Research Initiative which has five key missions: improving older people's health through aging research, enhancing community social capital through intergenerational connections, contributing to better care services, engaging with relevant organizations to inform policy, and building research capacity in gerontology. The initiative maintains national and international collaborations with scholars from Europe and the United States.
