Varjakoski contributes to the Healthy Ageing in a Digital World (HAIDI) project and studies older adults’ experiences in diverse neighbourhoods, including intergenerational relations and community wellbeing. She teaches courses on cultural ageing, media, and digitalization. Recent research highlights include a mixed-methods analysis of age diversity’s impact on community wellbeing, published in International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to gerontology and policy-relevant insights for age-friendly environments. Key projects include investigations into older drivers’ life transitions and neighbour relations. Varjakoski’s findings advocate for inclusive urban policies supporting intergenerational connections and social networks in ageing populations.
