Dr Tim Nichol is a Senior Lecturer in Biological Sciences at Sheffield Hallam University, affiliated with the School of Biosciences and Chemistry within the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences. He holds a BSc in Biomedical Sciences (Glasgow University), an MSc in Pathological Sciences (Sheffield Hallam University), and a PhD investigating bacterial oxygenase catalytic activity. His career includes postdoctoral research on antibiotic-eluting medical devices and antimicrobial coatings before joining Sheffield Hallam in 2016.
Research focuses on developing antimicrobial sol-gel coatings for medical devices, microbial fermentations, bacterial oxygenases, biocatalysis, and biofilm dynamics. He collaborates with the Biomolecular Sciences Research Centre and Industry and Innovation Research Institute. Teaching responsibilities include microbiology, infection control, and professional practice modules for bioscience, chemistry, and nursing students across undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Prominent publications (2023) explore antimicrobial peptide mechanisms, plant-based enzyme expression, and synergistic antimicrobial strategies against pathogenic E. coli. His work bridges academic research with industrial innovation in biomedical applications.
