Tim Naylor is the Norman Lockyer Professor of Astrophysics at the School of Physics, University of Exeter. His research focuses on observational astronomy using satellites and large telescopes, with current emphasis on star formation regions (stellar archaeology), Earth-mass exoplanet detection through the Terra-Hunting Project, and stellar variability studies for the LSST:UK Consortium where he chairs the Board.
His research interests include astrophysical processes in star-forming regions, time-variability of young stars, exoplanet detection, and developing observational techniques/algorithms like the tau-squared method for color-magnitude diagram fitting and optimal photometry. Past research covered black hole mass measurements and classical novae evolution. He leads resource development including photometry code, cluster catalogues, and an isochrone server for pre-main-sequence modeling.
Naylor directs significant projects including the Terra-Hunting Project (Science Manager) and LSST:UK Consortium (Board Chair), and previously led the eSTAR automated telescope network. He maintains extensive astronomical resources like the Cluster Collaboration's photometric catalogues and isochrone server for stellar evolution modeling.
