Patrick Tamburo is a Tierras Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University's Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian, working within the Charbonneau Astronomy Group. His research focuses on detecting Earth-like exoplanets around very low-mass stars using specialized ground-based facilities.
Research interests include:
- Exoplanet detection via transit photometry
- Stellar variability characterization in M dwarfs
- Exomoon and exoring signature identification
- Atmospheric characterization of rocky exoplanets
- Infrared surveys of substellar objects
His recent publications demonstrate expertise in orbital dynamics (e.g., misaligned orbits in M dwarf systems), JWST atmospheric constraints (TRAPPIST-1 studies), and next-generation survey predictions for the Roman Space Telescope. Work consistently bridges observational campaigns with theoretical frameworks for habitable world identification.
Dr. Tamburo leads data analysis for the Tierras Observatory—a dedicated 1.3-m telescope—and continues development of the Perkins INfrared Exosatellite Survey (PINES) initiated during his Boston University PhD.
