Professor Tim Mehigan is a leading scholar in German literature and philosophy at the University of Queensland, where he has served as Professor of German since 2013. A Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities (elected 2003), he has held prestigious appointments including Humboldt Fellow (University of Munich, 1994-1995), Humboldt Prize Winner (University of Bonn, 2013-2022), and Fulbright Research Fellow (University of Chicago, 2017-2018). His academic journey includes Honorary Professor at UQ in 2011-2012.
Tim's research spans two pivotal eras: the Goethe and Kant period (late 18th to early 19th century) and Austrian modernism (early 20th century). He explores intersections between literature and philosophy, particularly in works by Heinrich von Kleist and Robert Musil, while also analyzing ethical dimensions in J.M. Coetzee's fiction and the role of space in literary modernity.
His scholarly output includes editing The Palgrave Handbook on the Philosophy of Friedrich Schiller (2022), translating K.L. Reinhold's philosophical works, and co-editing Camden House collections on Coetzee. Recent
