Tim McCormack

Tim McCormack is an Assistant Professor and Director of Writing Programs at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY. He has a PhD in Composition and Rhetoric from the Graduate Center, CUNY, and holds additional degrees from St. Bonaventure University, Queens College, and the CUNY Graduate Center. His work focuses on language, student literacy, and writing program administration, with publications in journals like The Journal of Basic Writing and Composition Forum.

McCormack's research examines the impact of high-stakes placement testing on student outcomes, retention, and graduation timelines in senior and community colleges. His ethnographic study The Dividing Line investigates these dynamics at the City College of New York and Bronx Community College.

Professional achievements include the prestigious Certificate of Excellence from the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) awarded to the John Jay Writing Program under his leadership. He has extensive experience in writing program administration across high school-to-college bridge programs, writing centers, first-year writing initiatives, WAC programs, and graduate-level writing curricula.

McCormack teaches developmental writing, freshman composition, business writing, journalism, and graduate courses in writing pedagogy and thesis instruction. He also trains Graduate Teaching Fellows through the ENG 7900 Teaching College English course. Beyond academia, he is a certified Zamboni driver and maintains ties to ice rink operations from his graduate school years.
