Tim Holmes is a PhD Student in Management at Durham University Business School and holds the academic rank of Tutor. He is a member of the Centre for Leadership and Followership and serves as the PhD Representative for the Department of Management & Marketing. His roles include Research Assistant to Professors Susanne Braun and Olga Epitropaki, focusing on leadership development, identity dynamics, and measurement. He also teaches as a Seminar Tutor at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
Tim completed a Honours Degree in Business Management & Finance at York St John University before pursuing a Master’s Degree. He has prior experience as a full-time Sabbatical Officer and President of the Students’ Union at York St John University, alongside work in public and private higher education institutions, charitable organizations, and entrepreneurial ventures.
His research interests center on leadership, specifically leader identity and leadership impostorism (self-doubt in leadership roles). He has presented at international conferences such as the Academy of Management annual meeting and the Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Leadership Symposium. His publications include a chapter in the 2024 book Navigating Leadership, addressing strategies to tackle leadership impostorism.
Tim actively contributes to academic communities, serving on the organizing committee for the ASQ Blog (Behind the Scenes of Administrative Science Quarterly) and leading the monthly Reading Group for the Centre for Leadership and Followership. He also holds roles as Research Chair for Management in the Business School’s Doctoral Society and has previously acted as a Faculty and Academic Representative.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Tim is a university-level rower with leadership experience in sports roles like Men’s Captain, Treasurer, and Club President during his studies.
