Tim Hanway is an Assistant Professor of Practice and Internship Coordinator for the Health & Exercise Science Program at Simmons University's Department of Biology, within the School of Sciences and Health Professions. He holds an MS in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Roehampton, London, and a BS in Exercise Physiology from SUNY Brockport. Prior to his current role, Hanway served as an adjunct professor at Lasell University, Anna Maria College, and Regis College, and spent nine years as Sports Performance Director at Velocity Sports Performance. His work also includes international experience with professional sports organizations like Harlequins (English Premiership Champions) and Team GB during the 2012 London Paralympics.
Research interests focus on Muscle-Centric Medicine™, healthy aging, corporate wellness, and the integration of physical conditioning with mental resilience. He emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to explore protein intake behaviors, resistance training effects on biomarkers, and high-performance strategies for executives. Hanway is committed to experiential learning, mentoring students through internships, and fostering leadership through programs like the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURPASs). He actively contributes to professional organizations such as the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Key contributions include keynote addresses on healthy aging and AI in education, presentations on pharmacokinetics of supplements, and research on Paralympic athlete preparation. His teaching philosophy prioritizes engagement, creativity, and fun while emphasizing ethical technology use. Hanway holds certifications from ACSM, NSCA, and the American Academy of Sports Dieticians and Nutritionists.
