Astrid Mel is an Associate Professor and Program Director of Exercise Science at Mercy University's School of Health and Natural Sciences. She oversees program development, including establishing a state-of-the-art research lab, serves on the Faculty Senate, and acts as Faculty Athletic Liaison. Certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA), Sports Nutritionist (ISSN), Exercise Physiologist (ACSM), and holder of an NCAA coaching diploma.
Education:
- M.A. in Advanced Level Coaching, Springfield College (thesis on gender differences in soccer officiating)
- Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology, Springfield College (research on hydration's impact on soccer performance)

- Environmental physiology and injury prevention

- Pedagogical innovation in Exercise Science education
