Professor Tim Coulson is a Professor of Zoology at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Department of Zoology. He serves as a Professorial Fellow of Jesus College and leads initiatives such as the Departmental Fundraising Lead and Departmental REF Lead. His research focuses on ecological and evolutionary dynamics, particularly the impact of apex predators on ecosystems and evolutionary changes in species like guppies and silvereyes. He has authored a popular science book, A Little History of Everything from the Big Bang to You, and co-hosts the Science of the Times podcast.
His research integrates theoretical models with field data from Yellowstone National Park, Trinidad, and Oceania. Key interests include predator-prey interactions, insular evolution, and climate change impacts on wildlife. Coulson advises multiple graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in his Ecological and Evolutionary Dynamics Lab. He advocates for biodiversity conservation through policy and public engagement.
Publications span ecology, evolution, and conservation, with recent works addressing species monitoring, climate impacts on wine quality, and migratory behavior. His outreach efforts aim to bridge scientific research with public understanding, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to ecological challenges.
