Tim Bloss is an Associate Professor in the Biology Department at James Madison University (JMU) and Director of the HHMI Inclusive Excellence Initiative. He joined JMU in 2006. His research focuses on cellular responses to misfolded protein stress, particularly the role of the nascent polypeptide-associated complex (NAC) in managing cell stress and apoptosis using the C. elegans model organism. Irregular NAC activity is linked to neurodegeneration and cancer.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Cell & Molecular Biology, 1998, University of Wisconsin-Madison
- B.A. in Biology, 1989, Carleton College
Research Interests:
- Mechanisms of protein stress response and apoptosis
- Role of NAC in cell viability and disease
- Genetic and molecular studies in C. elegans
Teaching:
- Genetics and Development (BIOL 224)
