Dr. Tim Barrows is an ARC Principal Research Fellow at the University of Wollongong's School of Earth, Atmospheric and Life Sciences (SEALS), with a joint appointment as Professor of Environmental Change at the University of Portsmouth. His career includes roles as an Australian Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow, Senior Lecturer at the University of Exeter (2009–2018), and recipient of the 2017 ARC Future Fellowship. He holds a PhD from the Australian National University (2000) and has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Colorado and ANU.
Research Interests:
1. Geochronology (cosmogenic nuclides, luminescence dating)
2. Glacial and periglacial geomorphology
3. Photogrammetry and 3D landscape modeling
4. Paleoceanography via foraminifera analysis
5. Data archaeology and big data visualization.
Awards:
- Robert Hill Memorial Prize (2000)
- ARC Future Fellowship (2017)
- Leadership roles in Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
Supervision:
Advises on glacial reconstruction projects in Tasmania, France, and Scotland, with funding for cosmogenic dating. Active in PhD supervision on tidewater glacier dynamics and climate modeling.
Labs/Teams:
Lead the 4D Landscapes collaboration network, focusing on integrating geospatial and temporal data to study environmental change.
