Associate Professor Tiina Manne is an archaeologist specializing in zooarchaeology and paleoenvironmental reconstruction at the University of Queensland. As Director of Research in the School of Social Science, she leads studies on human subsistence patterns and responses to environmental changes. Her roles include Associate Professor and Director of Research within the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.
Education: BSc (Archaeology & Zoology, 1997) and Honours (Archaeology, 1998) from James Cook University; MSc (Marine Geology, 2003) from the University of Miami; PhD (Anthropology, 2010) from the University of Arizona. Research focuses on Australian and Iberian archaeological sites, particularly Barrow Island and Vale Boi.
Research Interests: Investigates how past populations adapted to climate shifts through analysis of animal remains. Key projects include the Barrow Island Archaeology Project and studies on northern Australia’s initial colonization. Her work combines zooarchaeology, isotopic analysis, and experimental methods to reconstruct ancient diets and environments.
Publications highlight contributions to understanding Pleistocene-Holocene transitions, subsistence strategies, and archaeological methodological advancements. Collaborations span institutions globally, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches to cultural and ecological dynamics.
