Tihomir Popovic is a Professor and Research Coordinator in History and Theory of Music at Hochschule Luzern (Lucerne School of Music), where he leads the Music History Group. He concurrently serves as Lecturer in Music Theory at the Hannover University of Music, Drama and Media. He holds a doctorate and habilitation from Humboldt University Berlin, where he studied under Hermann Danuser. His research focuses on performance studies, British music, Renaissance music theory, and colonial discourse analysis in music. Key publications include Der Dschungel und der Tempel (2017) exploring British colonial constructions of India in music.
Popovic has held roles as deputy professor at Hochschule Osnabrück and lecturer at Humboldt University Berlin. His awards include prestigious prizes for piano performance and composition, alongside grants for scholarly publications. He actively contributes to interdisciplinary projects like Richard Wagner in Luzern and serves as external examiner for institutions including the University of Oxford and Austrian Academy of Sciences.
His teaching emphasizes analytical approaches to music interpretation, 16th-century music, and 19th-century British music. He also engages in creative writing, producing lyrics, children’s books, and travel narratives in Serbian.
