Peter Baur

Peter Baur is a Professor of vocal ensemble, chamber music, Lied interpretation, and performance practice/stage training at the Institute of Classical and Church Music, part of the Lucerne School of Music (Hochschule Luzern – Musik) within Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. He also holds the role of Senior Consultant. Born in Switzerland, Baur has dedicated his career to music education and performance, with a focus on vocal accompaniment and classical repertoire.

Education:

• Studied piano under French pianist Catherine Dalban
• Completed theory studies at the Akademie für Schul- und Kirchenmusik in Lucerne (1982)
• Graduated in piano from the SMPV (Schweizerische Musikschule für Privatunterricht) in Basel (1982)

Research & Teaching: Baur specializes in Lied accompaniment, vocal ensemble techniques, and historical performance practices. His work emphasizes bridging classical vocal traditions with contemporary stage training. He has conducted masterclasses and recitals at major festivals including the Lucerne Festival, Vienna’s Klangbogen, Festival du Périgord Pourpre, and Nice’s CIFM.

Awards:

• 1984 Aargau Kuratorium Prize, which funded a residency at Paris’s Cité des Arts for specialized study

Collaborations & Roles: Since 1999, he has taught at Hochschule Luzern and previously assisted Professor Udo Reinemann at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht (1988–1996). He frequently collaborates with vocalists such as Maya Boog and Caroline Vitale, accompanying them in performances of works by Poulenc, Britten, Zemlinsky, Schönberg, Satie, and Nikolaj Medtner.
