Gunnar Flagstad

Gunnar Flagstad serves as Associate Professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH), employed since 1997 and currently Head of the Subject Section for Piano, Accompaniment, Guitar and Accordion. He maintains additional affiliation with the Barratt Due Music Institute.

Flagstad specializes in piano accompaniment and chamber music interplay, with performance expertise spanning classical, contemporary, and jazz genres. His career includes over a decade of international performances across Europe at venues like Wigmore Hall and Lucerne Festival, plus major Norwegian festivals including Bergen International Festival and Oslo Chamber Music Festival. He regularly appears on NRK media and tours with National Concerts.

His 2025 publication on LIEDenskap (art song) demonstrates scholarly engagement with vocal music interpretation and collaborative performance practices.

Flagstad actively contributes to musical ensembles including Tine Thing Helseth Quintet, contemporary group TRAKTOR, and piano duo 20 fingre. Organizational leadership includes artistic direction of Resonance concert series (Gjøvik), head of accompaniment for Valdres Sommersymfoni, and artistic council membership at Ringsaker Opera.
