Tiffany Ling serves as Engineering Capstone Director in the School of Engineering at the University of St. Thomas, a position she has held since joining the university in 2015 after working as Lead Senior Process Engineer at Honeywell Aerospace. She teaches ENGR 100 (Introduction to Engineering Design) and directs the Senior Design Clinic (ENGR 480/481), guiding student teams through practical engineering solutions while addressing ethical, social, and safety considerations.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University
- BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota
Dr. Ling's research spans Manufacturing, Statistical Process Control, and Lean Six Sigma with applications in engineering design and education. Her doctoral work investigated micro-scale surface textures for friction reduction, de-icing modification, and biological attachment enhancement through industrial collaborations with Boeing and Ford, resulting in multiple patents. She emphasizes University-Industry Relations and Academic-Industrial Collaboration in all research initiatives.
Scientific recognition includes:
- Multiple patents awarded for novel surface texture fabrication processes developed during doctoral research
As Engineering Capstone Director, she advises student design teams in the Senior Design Clinic, fostering real-world problem-solving skills and professional development through industry-sponsored projects.
