William G. Besser is an adjunct instructor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of St. Thomas School of Engineering. He holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a Graduate Minor in Product Design from the University of Minnesota, and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from the University of St. Thomas.
His research and expertise lie in the areas of:
- Creativity and Innovation Studies
- Product Design and Development
- Rapid Prototyping Techniques
- Design Thinking
- Engineering Entrepreneurship
With over 10 years of industrial experience in the medical technology field, Mr. Besser has focused on the research, prototyping, and development of devices and technologies from ideation through commercialization. He also has experience in the consumer electronic, toy, and infant product industries through academic and personal pursuits.
He currently teaches ENGR 480-51 (Engineer Design Clinic I), a capstone course for engineering students where student teams develop engineering solutions to open-ended design projects while considering ethical, social, economic, and safety issues.
