Tiffany Bensen is an Instructional Professor of Biology at the University of Mississippi, where she specializes in teaching non-science majors in ecology, evolution, and human biology. She holds a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of California, Davis (2004) and a B.S. in Ecology from Idaho State University (1992). Her research focuses on sustainable agriculture, crop pest management, and biological control methods, particularly in row crop systems. Since 2022, she has served as the course coordinator for the Biology Department's non-science majors program, leading efforts to redesign introductory courses around active learning in the Duff Center for Science Technology and Innovation. Her work emphasizes integrating practical agricultural research with pedagogical innovation.
Dr. Bensen’s research spans studies on mustard cover crops’ effects on soilborne diseases and weeds in lettuce production (Salinas Valley, CA) and pest management strategies in vegetable crops (North Carolina). She has collaborated with UC Extension Service and NC State University, contributing to integrated pest management and crop rotation practices. Her recent initiatives include enhancing STEM accessibility for non-majors through dynamic instructional methods.
Her publications (2007–2009) highlight work on vineyard floor management, organic pest control, and herbicide efficacy in agricultural systems. While no scientific awards are listed, her contributions to both research and educational reform reflect a commitment to bridging ecological science with practical applications.
