Tianyue Zhao is a Research Fellow in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Monash University. Their work focuses on viral mechanisms that manipulate host cellular processes, particularly nucleolar functions and DNA-damage responses. Zhao's research contributes to Sustainable Development Goals by advancing understanding of viral pathogenesis and host interactions.
Research interests include viral regulation of nucleolar proteins, ribosomal RNA synthesis, and mechanisms by which viruses hijack cellular machinery. Key areas of study involve Hendra virus, lyssaviruses, and classical swine fever virus, with a focus on protein trafficking, ubiquitination, and RNA interactions.
Zhao has published on nucleolar treacle protein targeting by viruses (2023), viral protein multifunctionality (2024), and nucleolar DNA-damage response hijacking (2018). Collaborations span virology, molecular biology, and structural biology.
