Tia Whyman is a Barkindji woman and Research Fellow at the Ngangk Yira Institute for Change, Murdoch University, with an adjunct affiliation at The University of Western Australia. She holds a PhD in Psychology from Monash University, where her doctoral research laid the foundation for her community-led work on Indigenous wellbeing.

Her scholarship examines the intersection of Aboriginal cultural practices, Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB), and environmental challenges. Key themes include:
