Thomas W. Ralston is a Visiting Assistant Professor and Executive Director of the Forum for Western Pennsylvania School Superintendents at the University of Pittsburgh School of Education. He has over 30 years of experience in K-12 public education, serving as a science teacher, middle school principal, and superintendent of the Avonworth School District. His work emphasizes equitable, student-centered learning through innovative curricula and collaborative environments.
Dr. Ralston holds a Doctorate of Education from Youngstown State University, a Master of Arts from West Virginia University, and a Bachelor of Arts from West Liberty University. He also earned a Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from Westminster College.
His research and professional focus includes addressing educational inequity exacerbated by the pandemic, fostering collaboration among school leaders, and advancing project-based learning. He leads the Forum to provide professional development and networking for school superintendents, drawing on his experience in reimagining Avonworth’s curriculum and physical spaces to prioritize student engagement and belonging.
