Thomas Sehringer is an Assistant Professor of Music Production at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, part of the Institute for Music and Media. He holds a degree in Sound Engineering from the Erich Thienhaus Institute at the University of Music Detmold (1985). With extensive industry experience, he has worked as a freelance sound engineer and mixer across music production, recording, live events, radio, podcasts, and television sound, specializing in pop, rock, jazz, and diverse genres. He has collaborated with institutions like WDR (WDR Big Band, WDR Rockpalast), Cologne jazz venues, major studios (EMI Electrola, Dierks Studio), and TV networks. Since 2001, he has been employed at WDR in the Music and Large-Scale Productions department, handling music recordings and broadcasts ranging from church services to rock festivals.
Sehringer’s expertise spans sound reinforcement, studio techniques, and audio technology. His career highlights include work with the Cologne jazz club Stadtgarten, live broadcasts, and major music events like the Eight Bridges festival. His technical skills cover a broad range of musical styles, from classical to contemporary genres. He has also contributed to educational programs, including substitute academic chair roles and curriculum development in media technology and music production.
His teaching focuses on practical applications, including radio/podcast production, studio hardware, and miking techniques. His interdisciplinary approach bridges music performance, media technology, and live sound engineering.
