Prof. Dr. Thomas Rötzer is an Adjunct Professor of Ecological Modeling at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) within the TUM School of Life Sciences. He serves as Deputy Director of the Center for Urban Ecology and Climate Adaptation. His work focuses on tree growth dynamics under environmental changes, ecosystem services, and climate adaptation strategies for forests and urban green spaces. Process-oriented ecosystem modeling is central to his research.
Education: Studied agricultural and horticultural sciences at TUM, earned a doctoral degree in 1996, and habilitated at the Chair of Forest Growth Science in 2012. Previous affiliations include Ludwig Maximilian University, Humboldt University of Berlin, and the German Meteorological Service.
Key research themes include climate change impacts on tree growth, urban forestry resilience, and ecosystem service quantification. His recent work emphasizes developing practical guidelines for urban tree management in Bavaria and beyond.
Publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches, combining field observations with computational models to address ecological challenges. Current projects prioritize translating scientific insights into actionable strategies for climate adaptation in urban and natural landscapes.
