Thomas Roiss is a doctoral student in the Anthropology of Science and Technology research group at the Department of Science, Technology and Society, Technical University of Munich. His research focuses on ethnographic studies of sustainable chemistry and chemical environmental pollution. He holds a B.Sc. in Technical Chemistry from Vienna University of Technology and an MA in Science and Technology Studies from Technical University of Munich (TUM). Prior to his PhD, he contributed to UNEP scientific reports on chemical pollution and co-authored a book on chemical product safety. He also served as a secondary school teacher in Vienna through Teach for Austria.
His research interests intersect chemical pollution mitigation, sustainable innovation practices, and democratizing scientific decision-making. Collaborations include projects with ETH Zurich on environmental toxicology and chemical safety frameworks. He has published on bisphenol pharmacokinetics and environmentally oriented chemical design principles.
Roiss actively engages in interdisciplinary work bridging natural sciences and social sciences, emphasizing field-based methodologies to address environmental challenges. His work highlights the societal dimensions of chemical innovation and regulatory frameworks.
