Dr. Thomas Riesthuis is an Assistant Professor of Legal Theory at Utrecht University's School of Law, affiliated with the Institute of Constitutional, Administrative Law and Legal Theory. His research focuses on the philosophical foundations of European multi-level legal systems, legal pluralism, and the rule of law. He is a member of the research cluster Empirical Research into Institutions for Conflict Resolution and the Montaigne Centre for Rule of Law and Administration of Justice.
- Serves as Faculty Contact Person for Research Integrity at the LEG faculty.
- Teaches courses on Foundations of Law, Jurisprudence, and Philosophy of Law, including roles in the Bachelor of Law program committee and as an LRM tutor.
- Deputy Chair of the Examination Appeals Board at Utrecht University.
Education: PhD (Law, Erasmus University Rotterdam, 2019), MA in Philosophy of Science (2013), LL.M. in Constitutional and Administrative Law (2012), and LL.B. (2010), all from Erasmus University Rotterdam. Visiting fellowships at Queen Mary University of London and the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law.
